A juvenile Wheel Bug (Arilus cristatus), a member of the Assassin Bug Family, attacks a Japanese Beetle (Popillia japonica), slowing sucking the life out of it. The Wheel Bug prowls foliage and flowers, looking for other insects to slay, often claiming victims larger than themselves. Wheel bugs are native throughout the Central and Eastern US and Canada. Defensive bites of Assassin Bugs are excruciatingly painful.
