Portions of the bryozoan fossil Archimedes. The genus Archimedes was named after the Archimedes screw. The piece on the left is a remnant of the corkscrew-like stalk of the organism. On the right is a fossil remain of the delicate sea fan-like lattice structure that wasn't often preserved during fossilization. Note these are separate finds. Mississippian Period.
