Labradorite is a feldspar mineral of the plagioclase series. As a result of light refraction, it shows an iridescent brilliant blue when viewed at the right angle, similar to that of certain butterfly scales as in a Blue Morpho, and certain bird plumages as in North American Tree Swallows. Sydney Mines, Labrador.
